Technician
The core competencies that a Certified Pharmacy Technician practicing
in Ontario possess are set out through the Ontario
College of Pharmacists (OCP).
With the core competencies as set out by the OCP, the Pharmacy
Technician program provides both technical and practical training
which will enable the technician to function as a competent, entry-level
assistant to a licensed pharmacist. The program provides the student
with the basic knowledge of and practice in pharmacy calculations,
drug distribution systems, and preparation of sterile dosage forms.
44 Week Diploma Program
Computer skills necessary in pharmacy practice will be utilized
and both pharmaceutical and medical terminology will be covered.
In conjunction with a representative from the Ontario College
of Pharmacists, local pharmacists, program co-coordinator and
instructors, our program has achieved a high standard of education
in both technicians, and other health professionals for specialized
areas. Each instructor possesses specific education and experience
in the courses they teach.
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate can apply
to write the certification exam through the Ontario College of
Pharmacists.
The Pharmacy Technician program has 6 weeks of placement that
comprises of 3 weeks in a retail environment and 3 weeks in a
hospital setting. This placement is a mandatory component of the
program. .
